Edwin Wilwayco (Recalibration Series)

With more than three decades of sustained dedication to abstract painting, Wilwayco is regarded as one of Philippines important artist in the field of abstraction. He has been a major contributor to the development of abstract art in his country and is best known for his lush and lyrical paintings. Despite his mastery over the artistic idiom of abstraction, the artist remarked in the Philippine Star newspaper : “Doing abstract work is a challenge because it’s making a painting I haven’t seen before. I don’t make studies, and it depends on my feelings.”
